Sine Plambech awarded The Gyldendal Non-Fiction Award 2024

The jury’s reasoning for awarding senior researcher Sine Plambech Gyldendal’s Non-fiction Book Prize:

With the groundbreaking Global Sex – What Sex Workers Know About Love and Capitalism, Sine Plambech takes us on a global journey into the world of sex workers. Twenty years of intensive fieldwork, from Thy to Istedgade, through Pattaya, Nigeria, Dubai, and Italy, form the basis for this deeply sensitive, brutal, and captivating non-fiction work and ‘page-turner’ that offers a new perspective on sex work. By following in Sine’s anthropological footsteps, we come to see that the paths of money, capitalism, and love are mysterious and unpredictable — for better and for worse. After reading Global Sex, one’s worldview is altered, both in grand and subtle ways. It becomes clear that we need new, nuanced narratives.
